Roost Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 3, 2026

The short version

Roost has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no trackers and no third-party SDKs. Adrondak LLC does not collect, sell, rent or share your personal information, and there is no Roost server that receives your answers.

Most of what Roost knows about you never leaves your iPhone or iPad. A small number of things necessarily do, and they are listed below rather than glossed over.

What stays on your device

Roost stores the following locally on your device, using Apple's on-device database (SwiftData). None of it is transmitted to Adrondak LLC:

  • Your onboarding answers — the lifestyle questions and any optional Human Design details
  • Your optional display name, and any location text and coordinates you choose to save
  • Your filters and preferences, including household, life stage, housing intent and price ceiling
  • Your Journey — the towns you save, their status, and any notes you write
  • Towns you have set aside, and dismissed weekly wildcards
  • The record of deliberate choices Roost uses to gently adjust your matches over time

Deleting the app removes all of it. Roost also has a "Start over from scratch" option in Settings that clears this data without deleting the app.

Location

This is the part most worth reading carefully.

Roost never asks for location permission and never reads your device's location. There is no GPS use and no location authorization prompt anywhere in the app.

Roost does let you optionally type up to three places, as free text:

  • Where you are now — during onboarding or later in Settings
  • Family or close people — in Settings → People & work
  • Work or a job hub — in the same People & work screen

When you save or look up one of those places, the text you typed may be sent to Apple so it can be turned into an approximate map point. Where you are now is sent to Apple's geocoding service. Family and work places are sent to Apple's local search (Maps). Roost uses the resulting coordinates only on your device, together with its bundled town data:

  • Where you are now, to estimate how far a match is from you
  • Family, as a preferred radius around people you care about — not a hard cutoff
  • Work, as a commuting radius that can exclude towns too far from that hub

That lookup text does leave your device. It is sent to Apple, not to Adrondak LLC. Adrondak does not receive those queries and does not store them. There is no Roost account to attach them to, because Roost has none. The request also includes ordinary network information such as your IP address, in the same way as any other internet lookup. Apple's handling of the request is governed by Apple's own privacy policy.

Each of these fields is optional. The text you typed, and any coordinates Roost keeps after a successful lookup, stay on your device with the rest of your answers. If a lookup fails or you are offline, Roost does not invent coordinates. For where you are now, it still keeps the text you typed. For family and work, a failed lookup leaves that place as it was.

Town content and images

Town descriptions and photographs are fetched from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons when you view a town. These requests tell those services which town article is being viewed, along with standard network information such as your IP address, in the same way as visiting the page in a browser. Roost sends no identifier of its own with these requests.

Roost checks the licence and attribution metadata for every image it displays, shows the photographer and licence in the Photo Credit view, and declines to display images whose licensing or attribution cannot be verified.

Links to other services

Roost's home-browsing feature opens a Zillow search for the town you are viewing, in an in-app browser. The link encodes only the town name, its state, and whether you are looking to buy or rent. Your price ceiling is added only when you choose to apply your budget to that search. For rentals, Roost uses an approximate monthly rent limit converted from your home purchase budget, rather than the purchase figure itself. Nothing else about you is included, and Roost sends Zillow no identifier. Once you follow that link you are on Zillow's site and subject to Zillow's own privacy policy and terms.

Roost also links to Wikipedia articles and to Creative Commons licence pages. These open in your browser and are governed by those sites' policies.

Notifications

Roost's optional Market Watch reminders are local notifications, scheduled and delivered entirely by your device. They do not use push notifications, there is no remote notification server, and no notification data is sent anywhere. Declining notification permission does not affect the rest of the app, and you can turn Market Watch off at any time in Settings.

What Roost does not do

  • No account, sign-in or cloud sync
  • No analytics, crash reporting SDKs, or usage telemetry
  • No advertising, ad identifiers or advertising networks
  • No tracking across apps or websites, and no data shared with data brokers
  • No sale or rental of personal information
  • No access to your contacts, photos, camera, microphone, or health data
  • No reading of your device's location

Human Design content

Roost can optionally take Human Design chart details and use them as one signal among many when ranking towns. This is treated as a personal preference lens, not as fact, medical guidance, financial advice, or a validated relocation method. Those details are stored on your device with the rest of your answers, and Human Design is entirely optional — skipping it produces matches just the same.

Children's privacy

Roost is not directed at children. Roost does not require an account, and Adrondak LLC does not receive or maintain users' answers or other information entered into the app. Information that may be transmitted to third-party services is described above.

Your choices

Because Roost holds your information on your own device, you are in direct control of it. You can clear your learned preferences, restore towns you set aside, retake your answers, start over from scratch, or delete the app entirely — each of which removes the corresponding data from your device.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that affects how Roost handles your information, the updated policy will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
